This incredible organization has been serving the special needs community for 31 years and the arts apprenticeship has been in operation for 7 years. Tell us a little about Verve Vertu, when it opened and how it is related to the Deutsch Institute.
Verve Vertu is an entity of the Deutsch Institute. It has been in existence for seven years. Verve Vertu is an art apprenticeship that taps into the creativity of individuals with special needs. The artists work in a wide range of mediums creating unique whimsical art pieces. Watercolors, acrylic, fibers, batik and wool needle felting are some of our favorite mediums.

The love of fiber art has enabled us to develop a line of wearable artwork. We exhibit at local and regional art venues. We have been commissioned to advertise events such as the Barnum and Bailey Circus, Disney on Ice for Mohegan Sun. We also have been commissioned by private collectors and other local businesses. Our work is internationally known with works being in Denmark, Ireland and England.
What is the Deutsch Institute and how does it serve the community?
The Deutsch Institute serves as a recreational service for people with disabilities. It been in existence for over 31 years.
Do you have any upcoming events you would like us to share?
Art Ability at Bryn Mawr. Twenty artists have submitted artwork to this international juried art exhibit. For the past several years, several of our artists have been chosen and sold work at this event. We will be exhibiting at the State Capitol in through the month of October. There will be a light reception on Oct. 3. It will be in the East Rotunda throughout the month.
What type of classes do you offer at the Gallery? Do you have items for sale at the Gallery?
We have a wide range of wearable art as well as two dimensional art for sale as well as commission. Our studio is open to anyone wishing to take a class and classes include felting, batiking, watercolor, acrylic, block printing, surface designing and multi media design. Studio hours are 9-3 Mon. thru Thurs; private classes and workshops are available upon request.
What will you be featuring in your space at the Arts on the Square festival?
Wool felted wallets, handbags, paintings, bracelets, silk scarves, batiks, and two dimensional framed artwork.
Is there any other information you would like us to share about Verve Vertu or the Deutsch Institute?
VV takes pride in that our classes are all inclusive. We also host a vacation club every year, and this year we will be going to Cape Cod for 5 days. The Deutsch Institute has served the community for over 31 years.
